Jan and Klowning

“The spirit is responsible for the well being of the human.”

Working alongside Ken Dyers from 1978 until his passing in 2007, Jan Dyers pioneered Kenja Klowning. “The training works hand in hand with the Energy Conversion meditation Ken developed. Together they form the basis of the work we offer in Kenja.” Jan says. “You first gain a conceptual, then subjective then objective understanding of the natural knowingness of the spirit, and the sanity and good humour of the human."

Today, Jan continues to contribute to the Kenja training she and Ken co-founded. Deeply inspired and forever mindful of the courage and personal ethics of her colleague and partner, Jan celebrates Ken's life every day by finding the best in everyone around her, by communicating Ken's work and continuing alongside a growing number of people, to make Kenja training available for all who can have it and use it to enhance their own quality of life and the lives of those around them.

Jan’s background

Born in Australia in 1948, Jan Hamilton earned a degree in Science majoring in Physics (B.Sc, Dip.Ed.) and worked as a Physics teacher before taking her passion for communicating through acting further. Jan received a grant from the Australia Council to study theatre full time for three years at E15 Acting School in London, where she also worked professionally in theatre. There she was introduced to a type of clowning that offered a vehicle for the actor to enrich his/her craft with a high-energy, childlike viewpoint.

Determined to pass on what she had learned, Jan returned to Australia in 1977. She wrote and directed shows and gave clowning workshops until she met Ken and found out about the Energy Conversion meditation work he was doing.

Experiencing Energy Conversion first-hand with immediate results, Jan saw how Ken’s communication didn't just work on stage, it profoundly helped people expand their lives. In Jan’s words "Energy Conversion made the apparently unfathomable, understandable and the insurmountable, winnable."

What is the childlike part of us all? It is the human spirit.

The human is a separate spirit in its own right. It is childlike in its simplicity and radiates enthusiasm for life. To deny the existence of the human spirit is to be bereft of wisdom.

We tend to relate the human strongly to the child, because in young children we can see the human in its natural, happy state. The human loves to communicate and reaches out freely. It loves to build and relates strongly to the physical world. The human is just interested in having a successful and joyful life for itself and the body.

As life goes on the human can get suppressed. It gets overwhelmed with the heavy situations life can present, and if it is not respected and acknowledged properly, can lose its vibrancy.

The human spirit is very buoyant. If a person is able to remove the heavy energy that suppressed the human, it will bounce back and the original joy of life experienced as a child will return.
